Flexible Spending Accounts

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRA) requires a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) to be an eligible expense.

Letter of Medical Necessity or written prescription includes 1. The reason for needing massage therapy. 2. The number of sessions you'll require each month. 3. The duration of each session. Examples of illnesses that qualify include; carpal tunnel syndrome, stress, back pain, sciatica pain, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression and pain management.

Getting a prescription is easier than it sounds, so there’s no need to stress. Healthcare providers often write prescriptions for things like massage or acupuncture without requiring an in-person doctor visit.

Once you/ve obtained a prescription or (LMN), file it away just in case you are asked to substantiate the expense to your flexible spending carrier. It is not necessary to bring your prescription to your massage therapy visit. However, you can either bring you flexible spending card to pay for your visit or you can pay personally and submit your receipt to your carrier for reimbursement. If you choose to pay for your massage with your flexible spending card, please let us know ahead of time so that we can make sure your payment gets processed correctly.
